Hi
Is OR can HG going to offer AV support in Cpanel? If no: can someone at HG bring this to the attention of interested parties so it can be put up for consideration. It would be helpful so customers can scan their server(s) / account(s) for viruses and take pro-action against software and or scripts uploaded on server(s) / account(s) by customers and or customers, customers. I know you can backup your server(s) / account(s) and download to local then AV scan but, the resource usage required for such action would be more than simply scanning remotely ![]() The added advantage of this is HG can also promote the AV company being used to scan account(s) / server(s). So customers and HG gain

First, I do not understand why this would be necessary. The servers are linux and any scan would just be for the benefit of systems running Windows. Also, this would put added strain on the CPU and will just slow down the server more.

I understand the HG servers are linux but, that doesn't mean files hosted by HG customers are of linux ext. (eg: .exe, .zip, backdoor php scripts ...etc). With all due respect to HG - my previous 2 shared hosting providers provided AV account/server scanning via Cpanel without excessive CPU requirements. Hope this helps

in somewhere that i read a news before, long time ago a leak in the hostgator server OS. causing some site being hack. Problem was solved and system patch.
sure the system will be monitor and secured all time. antivirus is system process. And its not wise to locate it at cpanel, and let user to initiate the scanning. Even possible to add it there... imaging 100 people in the server scan their 100GB each day... thats horrible nightmare for all of us.

There is no need for anti-virus in cPanel... hostgator keep there servers clean and patched, so it would just be a waste of cpu

thinking back... antivirus wont do the job here. Most likely if website attack kind of thing is cause by system security hole etc that need to be patch. Thats the reason for webmaster, its adviced to upgrade your script to latest version, eg phpBB, smf, wordpress etc. keep it updated.
Not related to AV... as AV will used at OS level to detect and clean viruses, trojan, or other malicious PROGRAM.
