Also Im real confused over the VPS things though?
If say I moved just the 1 domain to VPS, will I ever have this problem? Say it does happen, will I get more shut down notices or on VPS will it just serve a blank page when Im over said limits? Finding conflicting info on that. Be nice if ya could just set up shared like that somehow, Id gladly agree to have blank pages serverd when a problem happen, over shut downs. Say if CPU gets above 20% for more then 60 sec, said request just gets nuked and denied till below said limits. That way I could never go beyond the TOS limits of 25% for 90 sec. As the problem is each time we find a holo in the ship, another pops up and gettin shut down sucks more then moving 1 domain to VPS. see problem post http://forums.hostgator.com/2hr-tick...d=1#post219093 |

While we monitor loads on our VPS hardware nodes, generally unless someone is causing an extremely serious problem which puts the hardware node in jeopardy scripts will not be disabled. This is quite rare, as exceeding your resource limits on a VPS will simply eventually hit a hard limit where the hardware node will not allow you further resources.
Basically, if you move to a VPS and exceed the resource limits, the only person you will really be affecting is your OWN VPS. You'll notice that the VPS seems to hang a bit when the limits are hit, and your page may have a slight delay in loading if it's right near the limit, once it dips under the hard limit of resources again it will again run properly. Generally I don't expect just a phpBB forum to cause problems on a VPS, and we should be able to get this to run properly for you on a VPS. Please let me know if you have any other questions I can answer.

How does VPS work, it is just like the regular CP on shared?
Easy simple dummy set up? Do I have to have a domain to sign up? Id kinda like to do a test move. Will HG be able to copy things over for from shared to VPS for a test move? Cause I think I need to do that so I can get things fixed with out shutdowns. Cause the problem is I can't keep getting shut down while I test to see if the problem is fixed. The last fix was to limit users, and that only work for about 30 days, and were shutdown again on shared, Folks here are helpful in finding more things to fix but I don't want to get in trouble again if its not the right fix and were shut down again in 30 day or when ever... Kinda see what I mean, Cause it takes 8-10 hrs of beggin each time to get turned back on to try a new fix. Like having your car locked in the garage ever time it breaks down when the only way to fix and test such fixes is to take it for another drive, knowing if its not fixed, they will just lock it up again. Im trying to be a good customer but testing these type of fixes only works when I give it a full load test with max users at peek times. [Which is only 8-10 folks per hr. Had a max of 345 in a 36 hr peroid but that was 1 time.] But the guys who watch n shut sites down aren't as understanding as folks in here. |

it's a darn site harder to freak out VPS resources than it is shared .. and if your site crashes it affects noone else so support won't pull the plug (or shouldn't anyway) .. if you keep going over shared resource limits, VPS is the only way to go to stay online
