Yep, same error message here. From the referenced Yahoo page, I noticed the following:

Quote:
This error message indicates we are seeing unusual traffic from your IP address, and that emails from your mail server have been generating complaints from Yahoo! Mail users.
I'm willing to bet that this "unusual traffic" has something to do with these DNS issues... Any progress from the HostGator side of things???

EP..
for weeks now I have been getting the same thing (returned due to user complaints) when emailing yahoo.
But my mail has no connection to HG.
I think it is on Yahoo's end but they of course say it's something else.

Hmmm, this is odd.

I wonder if this could be the source of my XOOPS registration activiation problems....I've been testing it with both Yahoo adresses and Gmail addresses....

I've used phpmail, sendmail, and smtpauth ....Xoops says it has sent the activation, but it never shows up...EXCEPT...

There's always one of those....the XOOPS instal I have under my main domain works fine.

But any other domains I host or even in subdomains.....nada. Nothing.

Frankly I've been thinking it was a xoops issue....but I've used ever configuratin I can think of....16 with php4....16 with php5...18.1 with php4...18.1 with php5....phpmail, sendmail, smtpauth...in each one of those....

Finally I came by the board here to find this issue...

Could this be it?...I don't even remember which server I'm on..gator273?

edit: I see it says Elantra...that's the old server when I had a reseller account...IIRC

This may be stating the obvious, but have you tried setting your own email (local email under the domain you're installing the xoops program to) as the admin (or outgoing email account) email of the script to see if you're getting bounce messages? It usually takes about 24 hours for the bounce to occur.

Yesterday, I added another email to my ticket. Two hours later I got a reply saying the ticket has been moved to the ISP BL group for resolution and I would be getting an update shortly - but no update yet, 16+ hours later.

It appears some emails get through and some do not. As I had to send some email to yahoo.com addresses, I switch my personal email to use my ISP's SMTP server. But I can't easily do that for all of my users.

I'm not sure if I should be upset with hostgator, yahoo, or both. Right now, I'm leaning to both - yahoo for blocking it and not having a simply way to resolve the issue. And hostgator for not updating their customers about what is happening.

I'm with you on that one. I submitted a similar ticket last Friday and received a similar response (ISP BL group will respond shortly), but no further contact about the issue. I finally gave up on waiting and submitted an additional ticket last night and received this response back after it was escalated:

Quote:
The gateway07 IPs seem to be blocked at yahoo. We will be working on getting them removed asap. Please stand-by for further updates on the issue.

I hope this isn't out of line that I'm posting a ticket response in the forum, but I figure that everyone else should know. It appears that a number of folks are going through the same problem.

I recieved a response from Hostgator support a short while ago:

Quote:
I've been somewhat patiently waiting on Yahoo to fix this issue however, they've yet to do so and seen rather reluctant to offer support. What I suggest is that you fill out the form at the link they sent and see if you can get somewhere as I'm unable to.
So I went to back to the link Yahoo provided and clicked on their form to report the problem. I used my yahoo address to see if that would help.

The response from Yahoo was
Quote:
Hello,

This is an automated message regarding your recent request for Yahoo!
Mail Customer Care support. We have received your message and will
respond within the next 48 hours with an answer.

Thank you for reaching out to us. We look forward to helping you!

Sincerely,

Yahoo! Customer Care

**Please do not respond to this message as no one will receive it.
So I guess it could be a couple more days yet.

And to think, I was recommending them more and more - that may change.

I submitted to Yahoo the form with the information they requested last Friday, but have not heard back yet. All the while, I (and my customers) am (are) getting antsy...

Yah....see smtpauth comment... Granted I could have used any smtp but at least I have some control over my own email..

Actually...here we are some 8 hours later and one by one the tests are showing up at Yahoo....but *not* at gmail. shrug

If I test using a non-Yahoo or non-gmail address the email is there instantly...So I don't think it's XOOPS, or HG....but the referenced problem with one of the servers they areworking into....

Anyway, I gave up in frustration and coded in a CAPTCHA....I know everytime I sign up on a site I want access "then" not the next day....I'll just move on if I have to wait...:/

I'd still prefer reg auth via a legit email though but the current situation isn't acceptable....

Somewhat to my surprise, I received a response from yahoo.com already. I have updated my hostgator.com ticket with the information I received from yahoo. Here is most of what I received back, removing information that doesn't need to be public, like email addresses, and information previously posted.

Subject: Re: Getting deferrals due to user complaints (KMM66179133V75091L0KM)

Hello,

Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Mail.

Please note that if you are not the administrator of the mail server in
question, kindly contact your email administrator directly with the
error message you are receiving.

If you are seeing a 421 error code in your SMTP logs indicating that the
messages you are trying to send are "temporarily deferred due to user
complaints," this means that we have observed unusual traffic patterns
from your IP address and have been getting considerable complaints from
our users regarding emails from your server.

This is not a permanent error; your system may automatically re-try at a
later time. If, however, you are seeing this same error consistently
over an extended period of time, we encourage you to provide us with
more information so that we can help diagnose your problem.

For bulk mail senders, please visit the URL below to review our best
practice recommendations and request assistance.

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mai...ster/bulk.html

If your mail server does not primarily send bulk mailings, please reply
to this email and indicate the mail streams that are being sent from
your email server(s), e.g., personal/corporate emails, transactional
mailings, mailing list postings, newsletters.

Furthermore, if you haven't already done so, please provide the
pertinent information about the issue:

a) Detailed description of the problem (including when it started);
b) The sending IP address(es) affected;
c) Specify all types of emails being sent from the outgoing mail
server;
d) The specific error code(s) your servers are getting from our MTAs;
e) SMTP logs showing the entire mail transcript, from the initial
attempt to connect to our MX up until the connection is eventually
deferred/blocked.

Your patience during this process is greatly appreciated.

Thank you again for contacting Yahoo! Mail.

Regards,

S***** C******

Yes, they have 4000 minions responding to these, and only 3 that actually do anything... Trying to get anything done is much harder than generating one of those emails.

I agree, getting a response from yahoo doesn't really mean anything, but the fact I got one, within hours of submitting it, is better than EP_EP got.

Good news. I was able to get mail into Yahoo's mail servers this afternoon. It still took around 10 minutes to appear, but it made it in nonetheless. Now let's keep those IPs off of the blacklist.
