Positive After one month - wishing I could feel settled

I arrived here one month ago after migrating from the worst webhosting company I have ever experienced (Ipower, which used to be good before they were consumed by Endurance International). Unfortunately, my experience here has left a bit to be desired, since my server has been inaccessible for a lot of the time due to a Denial of Service attack on the server.

I have been impressed by the loyalty of the Hostgator customers, and I hope that Hostgator, as it grows, will honor that loyalty into the future and not grow complacent. It will only take a few screw-ups to make a real mess of an otherwise good thing.

Hostgator can't be held responsible for one of its servers being under DOS attack, however the response to the attack has been poor. Whatever monitoring the administrators do on the servers does not include monitoring whether the sites on a server can be accessed from the Internet. Consequently, much of my last few weeks has been spent reporting such occurrences to disbelieving support staff.

So this could definitely be improved. Apart from that, I'm hopeful of a brighter future, but not feeling entirely secure in my new home and keeping one eye on the nearest escape route.

Good afternoon,

First let me welcome you to HostGator. I assure you that we will ALWAYS honor the loyalty to our customers. We value every one of our customers and will go above and beyond most of the time to make our customers happy.

Having that said, you are correct. Our current monitoring software does not show if there is a slow down in webpages being served. However, normally during a DoS attack it will cause a heavy load on the server which will then alert us. I agree with you and will talk with other about some way to have this added. Feel free to give us some ticket #'s and we'll see what has been going on with your server. I know this week there have been a couple of attacks or just excessive connections causing the sites to slow, but like you said they had to be reported. I appreciate you bringing this to our attention and agree with you on your statement of being able to monitor that.

If you will supply us with some ticket #'s We will look into this and if you want we can discuss this over the phone. Administrators usually do not make phone calls but we want our customers to feel comfortable and I think the personal touch with a phone call helps a lot.

You can email me jloe@hostgator.com , submit a ticket or update this forum. Either way we want to assure you that you have the right place.

Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you soon,

Josh Loe
