I would set it up so that you go into one of the photo galleries. You can create a link from an html page that goes to the gallery when someone wants to view the pictures, but the rest of the site is not password protected.
I use coppermine for all my photo galleries and I think it works great and is really easy to understand and set up. |

You can't build an account login system in Dreamweaver, you can only build the input forms there. You'll need to choose a gallery software package you're comfortable installing and using.
Coppermine is ok. Gallery is ok. |

BTW if you go with Coppermine, might I suggest that you download the most recent version from the coppermine website and install it yourself instead of using the fantastico version.
Reason being is its not hard to do, and you will get the most recent version and you will actually learn a lot by doing the install yourself (if you are new like me) I am sure Gallery has its own website, but since I decided against going with Gallery, I never checked into their website to do the download (I used the fantastico version just to do the tests). Oh and one more thing. You can have multiple versions of Coppermine all throughout your website. This is good in my case as what I do with the photo galleries are different setups from one to the next. Not sure if you will need it, but its always good to know. |

You could try coding a php script. Dreamweaver does work for you BUT it does not code properly(it doesn't code the whole thing) which is what I dislike about Dreamweaver. Also, I remember when I faced your problem but it was for a staff login, anyway, I did some googling just now and found a wonderful tutorial in PHP. you don't have to code it yourself but anyway here it is. http://evolt.org/article/comment/17/60265/index.html

Quote:
that would be for a site where you do all the images and there are only a few people needing access or a shared user/pass, and you'd use the cpanel's password protect function for the directory you needed. you can't set these up specifically in dreamweaver, because to have the signon/passes, it either has to interact with a user database (first option) or be set up specifically on the server (2nd option). good luck!
