advertising affiliate program question

Ok this may be a stupid question, but can you use other means of advertising such as free link pages. Also, I have been selling scripts on ebay, can I offer to sell and install them for the customer at a discounted rate if they use my link to sign up for hosting with hostagtor? Sorry if these questions are silly, but I have never used an affiliate program before and do not want get booted if I sign up!

An affiliate program is a good idea if you are in a position where you see a lot of customers once. It allows you to leverage your contact with them to make extra money. On the down side, if you actually sold them hosting, you could make income for years to come.

There is nothing wrong with asking people to use your affiliate link to buy hosting in return for other services, but it might limit your ability to sell the main product, not everyone needs hosting and not everyone who uses hosting can move when they want.
