What are the advantages of a dedicated server over a reseller?
I only host my own sites, do I need a dedicated server? |

The biggest advantage, IMO, is that you have full access to a dedicated server and are the only customer on the server. Any time you are on a shared server, whether reseller or not, your site can be affected by your "neighbors." We moved to an unmanaged dedicated because it provided more reliable email service which was the main issue we had on shared servers with a couple of companies.
As to whether you "need" your own server, it would depend on your sites. There are folks with lots of domains but little traffic that run fine on shared servers. Sometimes, though, a site outgrows shared hosting and needs the resources of a dedicated. |

I wouldnt jump into a dedicated server unless you really need it.
With an unmanaged server you have to know what you are doing to keep it up also. If it goes down then the only one that will report it to get it fixed is you. Id stay on shared until you absolutely need it. |
