Does HostGator do adult hosting?

If you mean to ask if your site(s) can have adult content in HG servers, then the answer is: Yes, so far it's legal.
Read TOS here: http://www.hostgator.com/tos.shtml

Serra, some of the posters here show that not everybody HG hosts is an adult.

Hi,
I guess all the sites on the same server (shared and reseller plans) are beeing on the same IP (please confim) question: if yes, I don't know exactly what happens if some providers/filters/protection softs do block per IP against adult content. I need some information about that. If they only block by domain, no problem. main concern: my sites, that are not adult-content, beeing blocked as they share the IP address with an adult-content site. thx in advance for all info about it. |

Patricia you've raised a point I've not thought of "Will being on a shared server that also hosts adult content limit the exposure of my sites non adlut content?" Thats a question worth looking into.

Blocking does not block sites based on IP address. They understand that sites often share IPs with non adult sites, so they will not block content based on that criteria.
Also, popular adult sites are not normally on shared hosting. |

On the assumption that somebody who digs up a 14-month old thread and posts with a link is spam, here's what the forum does to spammers:

George, I think you put the quotes in the wrong place--didn't you mean 'watching for members "abusive" posts'?

I'd make a comment, but I'm on restriction from pointing out trolls and spammers.

From the TOS:
We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. Any material that, in our judgment, is obscene or threatening is prohibited and will be removed from our servers with or without notice. Doesn't this mean adult content is NOT permitted? I just sent someone elsewhere because I thought they couldn't do it here even though there were going to follow all applicable laws.

Well with that kind of disclaimer and warning that, on a whim that is not spelled out in writing, someone somewhere can 'consider' it obscene and block it - I would suggest to anyone wanting to set up an adult site to go elsewhere. If Hostgator wants to be clearer on this that would be a different matter. I have seen plenty of other sites that don't have such a clause and make crystal clear adult content is OK. Hostgator says it is OK UNLESS. What is this UNLESS? Gay content? Frontal nudity? Who knows?

If I wanted to host an adult site I would NOT go to a host where they are simply saying "adult content is OK", without any UNLESS, because then I might end up being a neighbour of a kiddie porn site or something else ILLEGAL.

It does. And of course I agree any adult site must apply with ALL applicable laws to avoid the sickos of the world. Thanks for clearing it up. I will see if I can persuade the person I referred elsewhere to reconsider. I know they haven't solidified anything yet.

I know that this post is too old, my apologies to bring it up again.
I am looking for better and more detailed explanation on what it is considered “legal”, but so far cannot find it on Hostgator site or forum. Can anybody help me to better understand the term “legal” or point me to the website with information about it. Please don’t send me to the lawyer , I know that lawyer is a best way. Thanks, Sergey

Legal by Texas law, as long as you aren't hosting anything with underage children or animals then it should be fine.
