Yeah, my databases are already on the HG server. I also created the addon domain but I'm not sure how many files to move (What about additional folders in their such as _private, _vti_txt, etc.?)
Also, my original domain (toptenlisted), is a wordpress blog, so the original public_html folder had a ton of files in it. |

That sounds right. I guess I was confused on what exactly he was doing, but you cleared it up. I've always been on reseller accounts so for me it would be a different situation. |

The _private and _vti* folders are needed if you use Front Page to publish so they really aren't necessary in your case. You would need to copy all of the files from public_html to the addon domain folder as well as all of the folders in public_html that are used by WordPress. You would also need to edit any references in the WP config that use absolute addresses (such as /home/cpanelusername/public_html) to use the new location.

Alright thanks for all the help everyone, I moved it and everything seems to be in order.
But I don't understand why the admins wanted to charge $75 an hour just to move a few files around

Something else I just noticed, is that on my WP dashboard page, several sections have 403 errors. It is stating that my IP address has been blacklisted due to "malicious or illegal activity".

Glad it is working. It is working fine for me. As for the support desk, the issue really was not a server problem. They did do just as you requested on the original request to change the domain name on the account. They quoted the price in moving and importing databases. Moving the files to the addon folder is more a case of coding which would be the client's responsibility.
In looking back through all of the replies on this post it seems to me a good example of how difficult it can be to provide advice when the description is generic. It was difficult to understand exactly how things were set up when using domain1.com and domainB.com rather than just giving the original domain names and what domain you wanted to use. In any case, it looks like everything is working now so congrats on that. I have seen sites completely hosed when trying to make similar changes. |

Thanks GvilleRick, I just didn't want to make an appearance that I was just link dropping or anything (like when I started the thread), and some of the issues I was having I thought others may have had similar problems. But I guess in my case it was just a specific problem to my site.
Also those errors came up in my dashboard came up as soon as I switched hosts, so it's not a database problem, just didn't bring it up right away because of the other problems I was having. So not sure why it's been blacklisted though. |
