Default Addon domains are handled like subdomains

"Addon domains are handled like subdomains as far as the server is concerned, but to the outside world they are separate domains."

I signed up to HG shared with a main domain that is a family name. Now I'm doing addons. The addons can be accessed either by the addon.com or addon.main.com. I don't want these names together for the general public to see. Can I mask the sub domain appearance? Will these sub domain titles get picked up by search engines? I have a random domain.com that I could switch to the main, but I still worry about tracing back to the family name. I'd like to hide or remove the sub domain titles. Can this be done?

Thanks

This has been discussed several times recently. To recap, redirect the subdomains to the domain names, but they should never get found anyway unless there is a link to the subdomain or someone makes random guesses.

Thanks George.

Please correct me if I wrong.
The subdomain is the addon on a shared plan, so it goes to the addon domain anyway .
I've tried the redirect and the title addon.main.com still shows. I just don't want to risk the connection. I guess wont host the sites I'm worried about. Not a big deal. Maybe I'll upgrade in the future to a reseller.

All fixed. absolutely correct. It just wasn't redirecting right after I changed and checked.

Thanks again

This won't work, as it's the same directory. If you use .htaccess to 301 redirect it, people and spiders trying to get to addon.domain.com will be forced over to addon.com.

Bots that crawl your website to index it in search engines

Example:

Google bot = Crawls your site and adds it to Googles search engine.
Yahoo! slurp spider = Crawls your site and add it to Yahoo's search engine

Yes, unless they are bad spiders and eat lots of bandwidth
