Please excuse the newbie questions, but I need to learn a LOT.
I have a Wordpress blog installed on my Swamp account and want to add a separate website. I added the addon domain, but it is appearing as under the blog domain, is this going to cause problems later? I want this to be a separate thing, not a sub. Also, do I have to design my site in Frontpage and upload it? Or is there a way to design it right on HostGator? I saw something about a site creator when I was first logging in, but I can´t find any info on that now! Although eventually I have to learn Frontpage, I´d like to get my site up and running as quickly as possible for now and do upgrades later on. Thanks in advance. |

No you don't. If you learn how to design using frontpage, you're just shooting yourself in the foot for later. Learn how to hand code, or at least use something like dreamweaver. In fact, anything that's not frontpage will be fine.

What is so bad about Frontpage? I have a copy of Dreamweaver, but can´t find any tutorials on how to use it. I´m just getting started, so all this is rather confusing. I´ve only used WYSIWYG editors before.

Front Page is M$ which is the biggest problem
![]() OK we use it on some sites, but screws up code, interferes with no frontpage parts of the sites, and has components that only work for M$ products. Now most of these can be set within options to not use, but the code needs to be fixed afterwards and you can't stop it from enterfering with other directories. Also it is discontinued and no longer will be supported much like Win98 and other M$ products! As for Dreamweaver, many tutorials are available at the macromedia site and other sites throughout the net. A little harder to learn, but a lot better product IMHO

I use M$FP (version 2.0.2.1131) from 1995-1996.
Whilst it does stuff up some portions of code ...etc I've learned how to minimise it and to be honest I never get complaints about my site(s) - not in 7 years anyway. Good thing about it being old is the fact it uses old, tried and tested code and non of the fancy stuff so in effect makes it x-browser compatible. Makes no difference whether it's supported or not as long as it works and does what you want. I agree you should really learn html, php and cgi but, a little goes a long way and I believe both WYSIWYG and coding go hand-in-hand for learning ![]() You use what makes you feel comfortable ... the other comes later when you advance.
