Default How to add domain?

I just signed up for a swamp plan today and I'm wanting to purchase another domain...How do I purchase a domain without purchasing a hosting plan?
Thanks

If you want to do it through HostGator, you can use the following link.

Once the domain is purchased you can follow these instructions to add it on in Cpanel:

1. Before you add an addon domain, Please make sure the “Name servers” for the addon domain is already pointing at you primary name servers and is propagated. Cpanel will not allow you to add the domain name unless the domain name is pointing to your server.
2. Click Addon domains
3. In the box to the right of “New Domain Name:” input the domain name for which you would like to add to your account. Please do not input “http://” or “www”
4. In the box to the right of “User name/directory/sub domain Name:” provide a name for a folder which will be placed inside of your public_html directory. What you place in the box will create a folder for you to upload your website files to for the addon domain.
5. In the box to the right of “Password:” Please provide a password for which you will use to FTP to the folder which is created for the addon domain.
6. Click Add Domain

You domain is now successfully added. If you open up a browser and type the new domain name in the address bar you will see a skeleton of your new domain. You can upload the website files to the folder which was created in the public_html of the primary domain or you may connect via FTP directly to that folder.

1. Can my user name be the same for each addon?

2. Can the directory field be the domain? - User/whatever.com/subdomain Name

3. Then what do I fill in for the sub domain field?

4.What are the redirect domain/ remove redirect domain fields for?

Thank you

I don't think it even asks for a username. You don't have a seperate control panel for each. You only use your main control panel.

addon and subdomains are different. to clarify -

maindomain.com - your main domain

differentdomain.com - this is an addon, completely different domain name

left one out: parkeddomain.com - this is like an addon, but doesn't have it's own site set up. it's like a forwarder.

sub.maindomain.com - this is a subdomain, and you dont' have to buy a new domain name to use. as long as you own maindomain.com, you can put your subs on top of it.

when you set it up in cpanel, it will make the folder for you. don't try to make the folder yourself first, because it will behave unpredictably and probably won't work right.

not sure what you're asking, but perhaps my clarification of what they are will help.

this is if you wan't to make it go to a special place. the default behavior for subdomains is to send the visitor to the root of your subdomain folder.
so maybe you set up subdomain of forums.maindomain.com in your cpanel. your files are physically located in your maindomain.com root, public_html under the folder named "forums." but when someone types in the location, they don't have to go to maindomain.com/forums/, if they use the subdomain, it redirects.

if you find you need it to go to a different place, you can use the redirects to do it. like, say, you have a subdomain for a blog and it's going to be down; so maybe you'll make a page announcing what's going on and put a redirect in there so that everyone who goes to blog.maindomain.com will see your new page instead, maindomain.com/why_the_blog_is_down.php, for example.

hope that helps.

Thanks Dix.

I'm not doing any sub domains. I plan on setting up some additional stand alone sites. I want to set up like this for all the sites if this is how to: myusername/standalonedomainname.com/????????.

I'm not sure if the directory needs to be an existing file or location or just a name given by me that the new file will be called. Also the third field says subdomain and that's not what I'm doing, so what do I fill in there?

Edit: Just found out that the second field is an automatic field based on the first.

Thanks again
