Default Add-on domain problems

Having problems with my Add-on domain being recognized (my main site is mhebertdesign.com). Here are the steps I took:

1. Pointed registrar to hostgator name servers (site was previously on a different host)
Checked http://www.domaintools.com/. Domain "capecodchorale.org" points to the following name servers -
Name Server:NS3.HOSTGATOR.COM
Name Server:NS4.HOSTGATOR.COM

2. Added Add-On domain through cpanel. It successfully created the capecodchorale folder under public_html

3. Uploaded files to public_html/capecodchorale folder. Able to view site at http://67.18.54.31/~lpmsite/capecodchorale/index.htm, http://capecodchorale.mhebertdesign.com/

4. Try to view site at http://www.capecodchorale.org and it goes to a search portal page - doesn't even display the site on the old host.

Is there something wrong with my add-on domain setup? I tried deleting, then re-adding it through c-panel with the same results.

If in step 3, you can see what you're supposed to, it sounds like the domain hasn't fully propagated. Sometimes it takes between 24 and 48 hours. You could try refresh (f5 or ctrl f5 to refresh and empty your cache).

Also, since you should have full forum access, next time you've got a question, it might be a good idea to post it in the shared hosting or other non-public category.

OK - will give it some time. I just thought if it were the domain prop. issue that I would've seen the old site on the old host.

And - right abt the category. Didn't realize I was in pre-sales, just found a similar topic there. Ooops...

Thanks

By any chance did you have a dedicated IP at the domain's old host?

See this. While the link to DNS information shows the domain is set to HG's nameservers, the IP on the top right of this page ("Domain information" belongs to capehost.net's nameservers.

Gwyneth, that will just be an old crawl record.

The DNS zone lookup points to HG now, just have to wait for old DNS cache to expire and propagation.

I know the DNS zone lookup is OK. But why would www.capecodchorale.org/index.htm, /history.htm, and /sponsor.htm all show the HG 404 error page (I took the page names from capecodchorale.mhebertdesign.com) while www.capecodchorale.org, without a page specified, redirects to the non-HG search portal page? Fluke of propagation?

I guess that was my confusion also, Gwyneth - and I have no idea abt the dedicated IP at the old address, though I would highly doubt it. What impact would that have?

Can you try removing the addon domain, then adding it again.

Everything points to the fact that it should work.... but it's not.

12 hours later - deleted the Add-on domain once again through cpanel and then recreated it...success.

Just another swim in the murky waters of domain propagation.

Sometimes cpanel does this. Glad it's sorted.

I myself think that the elf inside the server in charge of BIND restart was on a break.

Good that all is well. Now, can you tell me what 'SATB voices' are? Soprano, alto, tenor, bass? Scholastic Achievement Test Blasters?
