This thread has lost its value (in fact it did a while ago). Mirnitagl, there's great places to discuss the pros and cons of HG and other hosts (webhostingtalk comes to mind). This is the HG pre-sales forum area though and this thread has gotten way off the topic.
There can and certainly will always be legitimate complaints about HG made on this forum, ones that HG staff doesn't delete. This is no longer that though. Why doesn't everybody calm down, have a drink (idea copyright 2008 gwyneth) and stop the insults. Mirnitagl, if you found a host that works for you, I'm certainly glad to hear it whether it's HG or not. There's room for a lot of hosts in the world.

As long as we're well off-topic... that cup of tea sounds very good. Hold the marshmallows though.

This has been a very entertaining read.
Mirnitagl I believe the reason you got so many *strong* responses was because in the transcript you posted of the chat you had with HG Support you came off as a bit rude and impatient. You were not angry because YOU WERE flagged and needed to be verified, but because YOU MIGHT have to be. It's like getting angry at a restaurant BEFORE eating because YOU MIGHT get sick from their food, because you heard someone else had gotten sick. I live in the US and have had to be verified for things before, such as purchasing a domain from GoDaddy once (at least I think it was them), it's been a while. It was done for my protection, to make sure I wasnt for example the guy who sits next to me in class that had found my info and was trying to purchase something. Or the person who might have sat next to me on a flight to who knows where, and found my information that might have slipped out of my pocket on the flight and was trying to buy something. (by the way NEVER been on a plane, never plan too lol) Here in the US when we use a credit card or something, even though it is in our hand, our wallets, our pockets, we still get asked for a I.D. Even though we are standing right in front of them. They still need to verify I am who I say I am. We just don't think of it as a verification process because its done instantly, we show them and then go on our way. HG cannot fly out a employee to take a look at your ID. As you said you are a power seller on ebay, so this really surprises me that you do not understand why sometimes people must be verified. Paypal itself has its own verification system, that works with ones bank account. All HG asks is a scan of your ID, paypal's verification system I think is more of a hassle. I see you found a host you like, and I wish you all the best, as I have had horrible hosting situations myself. Now as for me, I'm off to try and sleep as my youngest nephew starts kindergarten tomorrow and I think I am more nervous than he is. |

So that's one coffee for gwyneth, one tea for jbuzz. The marshmallows are only with the hot chocolate. ![]() However a nice biscuit or three could be provided.

Slapshotw, The thing here boils down to this:
I made a research on hosting companies, thought hostgator was what I needed, investigated a bit further and "discovered" some disapointing stories about long verification process that ended up in accounts closed anyway. I understand the purpose of verification (that is not the point) but I have the right to doubt whether that verification may last longest than I can allow myself. I made the choice of NOT take any chances and in the meantime found a promising host with an impecable positive record and went for it. In the end, I was glad it. End of the original story. Now, the fight began when I explained my final desicion here and why I took it and some rude bad-mannered buch of folks (with the ing word on the tip of their tongues) could not stand to hear it. I feel sorry for the people who can't stand listening to an opinion different from their own and I certainly will not let anyone offend me EVER. So if I am attacked you can be totally certain you will get the same ammunition back and tripled. I agree that the thread changed completely its course, quite a while ago, and I believe it wasn't me who distorted it. I just followed the flow. A hot chocolate with 30º doesn't sound like a good idea, even under the soothing effects of air-conditioning, but drinking a Cuban Mojito in the terrace of my house overlooking at the Mediterrenean sea is something I'll never stop doing every afternoon until winter knocks on my door. To all the people of warm heart and good will, Cheers! Salud! |
