Default Account Questions

I've hosted with Hostgator for the past year or so and I'm extremely happy with their services. I'm considering an upgrade to a VPS and I had a few questions that I can't seem to find the answers to.

1.) Do I have to start a whole new account to sign up for a VPS, or is there someway I can use my current account for billing, etc?

2.) I'm planning on a local ad campaign for one of my sites, using both TV and radio. Obviously, I'm hoping for lots of traffic. Do instances of "downtime" decrease with a VPS, as compared to a shared hosting plan?

3.) Does the CPanel in VPS differ from the Cpanel in the regular shared hosting plan? And will there be a lot of tech stuff on my end when I start up?

Should be the same account it is just another product you add to your account.

Their will still be downtime if something goes wrong on the server or it becomes unreachable for some reason.
Downtime because of other people on the server should not be an issue. Basically you, and your clients, are your worst enemy's on a VPS

If you go for Level 3 and higher you will get Cpanel with WHM, Cpanel will be the same but without RVSkin, unless you want to purchase it, and it depends on how you set it up in WHM when you create the hosting account.

Will there be tech stuff? Yes there sure will be but you can ask HG to configure the VPS in the same way as the shared hosting servers are configured. That will leave you with a lot less to do but you might end up having stuff installed that you will never use that will be using resources.

As for security and installation of scripts, the VPS is managed hosting so HG will still assist you with getting things working as long as it is within reason.

It is basically a stepping stone towards dedicated hosting and allows you to get use to the idea of managing your own server.

There are lots of info on the Linux forums that are directly related to VPS hosting as well.
