Default Accept Switch/Solo/Maestro as payment method

Hi,

I would like to suggest that HostGator start accepting Maestro cards as payment methods for Hostgators UK Clients

Thanks

Honestly I see a request for Maestro cards maybe once a month in sales tickets and don't believe I have ever seen a request for Switch or Solo cards.

If it becomes requested more often I'm sure it will be something we will consider in the future.

Gotcha.

Yeah if it becomes more in demand I'm sure we'll pick it up.

I'd LOVE it if you allowed Switch and Solo. It's a huge thing in the U.K. And would entice customers who didn't have credit cards to move to hostgator.

For my own curiosity--is a switch/solo card different than a Mastercard or Visa Debit card? Do MC and Visa not offer Debit cards, only Credit, in the UK?

I Googled it but still am not sure of the difference.

To use a Switch/Solo/Maestro card you have to have funds in your account whereas Visa/Mastercard you dont, as long as you have a credit limit.
This is to my knowledge.

I have a PayPal account which I hardly ever use but for me the best online account is with EPassport, it's way easier to use than PayPal, for me at least!

Here in the U.S., some Visa/Mastercard cards are credit cards; some are debit cards (funds in your bank account); and a few can be used either way. We don't really have anything that corresponds to "check cards", as folks in the UK have.

Visa/Mastercard have four main types with their logo in the US:

Credit Card, Gift Cards (debit), Reloading Debit Cards and Check Cards.

a US Check card is usually a US Bank debit Card (usually with your Bank and Visa/Mastercard Logos) it can be used as a ATM or debit card.

While the functionality here may correspond to those four types, the last three terms for debit cards are virtually unknown in the U.S. I know a contractor from the UK who spent more than half an hour trying to translate "check card" to an officer at a local branch of one of the biggest U.S. banks, who in turn was trying to explain that while "debit cards" could be used both in stores and ATMs, plain "ATM cards" worked only in cash machines.

I'm really sorry for Bumping this very old thread, but I didn't want to start a whole new one.

I was just about to buy a hosting package via HostGator only to find out you don't accept UK Debit. So I just wanted to add my name to the list of people that would love to see this feature. I myself don't think I could trust myself with a credit card and therefore only have a Debit Card so I can keep control of my finances. I've found nearly all US websites don't accept Maestro and that's a shame :-(

Yes they do. I pay for my baby account with my debit card. One of the possible reasons that some suppliers do not accept certain types of credit and/or debit cards is the different charges applied to any transaction. These can be either a standard charge per transaction, a percentage of the value of each transaction or sometimes both. When the supplier sells mainly low cash value items (such as a $5.95 shared hosting plan) it can take away a very large chunk of any profit that is possible.

Which card do you use then, it's not letting me use my HSBC 18digit Maestro or my 16digit Natwest Maestro card. Keeps saying CC Number is invalid.

Barclays 16 digit Visa Debit Card. I have had the same problem using it on other sites in USA but not with HG.

I agree if you could allow paymets to be made by Solo cards it would be a great bonus for us UK users.

The UK cards are in general

Credit Cards

MasterCard
Visa
American Express

Debit Cards

Visa (This will be accept were u see the Visa logo same as the credit card Visa)
Visa Electron
Switch / Solo
Maestro

Any way PayPal accepts all UK cards so signup for PayPal, Actually carnt you just pay HostGator with a card throu PayPal, Then they would accept all UK cards.
