Red face absolute beginner to domain reseller concept

Exactly how does this work with a reseller plan such as Aluminum.
If someone contracts with me to build and maintain a site and I register a domain name for them.
1. Is it registered in my name or theirs?

and lets say...at some point they want to work with another web developer to take their site to the next level, can I continue hosting the site and provide access to the developer? or

do they have to move their site to another host? and...
if they do have to or choose to host elsewhere, do I then need to sell them their own domain name?

I would appreciate any kind soul who can give some clarity to a crazy person or (just plain idiot) who is teaching herself this whole process.

Answer: When you register the domain name with say Godaddy.com, you can put in the owner details, and technical contact details etc. Then you can either control the ownership of the domain name you purchased via your account with Godaddy.com, or if they want ownership/the name under their own account, they would just setup an account with Godaddy.com and you would then just transfer the name to them at that point.

and lets say...at some point they want to work with another web developer to take their site to the next level, can I continue hosting the site and provide access to the developer?
Answer: You could continue hosting the site and making money by doing so, then just give FTP access or cPanel access to the new developer. There are many ways to create a anonymous FTP user, which might work well for additional developers, but you still remain in control over the hosting account.

or do they have to move their site to another host? and...

Answer: They might want to move their site to a new server, but I doubt this would happen. Refer to the first questions answer above.

Hope this helps! Good luck.

If you get a reseller account in Enom (or elsewhere) you can create subaccounts for your clients, and then register domains for those subaccounts. That way the client will own the domain.

Your clients get cPanel access to their account, in cPanel they can create ftp accounts (if you give them the ability) and that way give access to others.

You can keep hosting the website, it does not matter who is developing the content to it

Thank you both! More questions re: domain names. With a reseller account you have unlimited domains and subdomains...do you pay the registration fee each time you create a new domain name and do you automatically get the option for two additional nameservers with that new registration?

You pay for each domain you purchase, "unlimited domains" means that you are able to have multiple domains under one account.

You can have private nameservers for your reseller account, and those nameservers you use for all the accounts you sell.
