Hello Hostgator,
is it only a theoretical difference between the uptime of the plan "hatchling" and "baby"? I suppose you always try the 100% uptime of your servers. What is your practical experience? best regards Peter Honig |

I can't answer directly, but I'll point you to the TOS, which is located at: http://www.hostgator.com/tos.shtml
The following snippet is directly from there. Quote:

its only a matter of few minutes,
I would NOT consider the difference if iam having my site on shared server. if you want you can go with dedicated server which may not have any downtime, cause there's no one else to use up all the resources, its your server dedicated to your own need. |

Or it may have nothing but downtime, depending on the account holder. Of course, ghpk's point also would apply to that situation: it would be your resources (or lack of them) keeping your sites alive or dead.

Nope, all tickets are handled first in, first out.... as they come in... new ones to the bottom of the pile...

Since I've been on HG my downtime has been 100%. Yep, that's right.
100% of any downtime I had, I did it to myself. So, I guess I'd have 100% uptime if i didn't shoot myself in the foot. Even when I made mistakes that brought down my site(s), HG helped me fix the problems I created and didn't even laugh at me (I think). |

The uptime guarantee difference only relates to the amount of time the server has to be down before they start refunding you. Because they don't separate the different types of accounts onto different servers, it's not a measure of how much uptime you'll actually get.
