Default 600GB of space??

I guess this isn't pre-sale since I already purchased my space but it is something I should have asked Pre-Sale:

Do I really get 600GB of space with my account? And if I were to say back-up my computer to a 600GB image and upload it, will I get a nasty email from hostgator saying I'm violating a rule or something?

600GB of space is a lot, and it would seem like the server would fill up insanely fast. A status script included with one of my php scripts said the drive only had 300GB of free space, yet I have 598GB of space left on my account. How does that work?

You might check out a post in the blog by Brent dealing with the new limits.

who going to need that much space? once you hit your bandwidth they will suspend your account and make you to upgrade

normally when a company give you that much space you need to do some research:

1. they overselling (slow down your site)
2. they will limit the bandwidth

The hosting accounts aren't for personal storage... if that is what you want, consider a backup storage facility or a dedicated server.

On another note, if you happen to require that much space without abusing the TOS, they will upgrade the server so you can use it.

@HomerJSimpson
The bandwidth isn't limited besides what is stated in the plan, but there are tight Resource restrictions in place so if you don't slow down the server, go over the IONODE limit, or break any other parts of the TOS, you will be fine.

1. 600GB is look good compare to other host (good marketing)
2. Since you are using the share server and once you reach the bandwith they will suspend your account.(they will said that your site will slow down other user) <--happen to me
3. Also you should ask them how many people use this share server and what is the bandwidth restriction.

i would love to see the mod or admin take on this. For my opinion this 600gb is just a marketing

Once again, you don't listen. You're talking about CPU usage, not bandwidth. YukonMaster already pointed that out.

If you had the biggest plan, with unlimited bandwidth, using it with something like large images, you could actually fill it up and be the only person on the server....
