$500 to anyone who can find a way to embed a .wav file inside a midi file.
I know all the technical stuff etc so no need to explain why it can't be done. I want to hear a voice recording when a midi file is played. Cutoff date: Jan 1 2008. |

You do not seem to know all the technical stuff... but ok.

Actually I DO know all the technical stuff about why it supposedly can't happen.
But I'm hoping the offer of cold hard cash will prompt some genius whizzkid to come up with some revolutionary technology that will allow it to happen. $1000 if it can be done by the end of September. |

Why would some genius whizzkid who came up with the revolutionary technology want to sell the rights to you when he could sell it to many people? Perhaps at less per sale, but still....

I don't want the rights. I just want someone to be able to do that for me. They can keep the rights for all I care.
I just want voice coming out of midi. |

I've seen this kind of thing before...midi "oohs" and "ahhhs". Not sure about full speaking but the oohs and ahhs were interesting. Really depends on what the midi's playing out of and what kind of digital instrument sounds are available when processing.

My neighbor the band engineer wonders why DigitalEar, Intelliscore, e-eXpressor, WIDI by Widisoft, or SDK MidiVoicer Java applet won't suffice.

It HAS to be a midi file...
i had a load of old midi files on my other webpage which were quite popular. people used them on quizilla.com and in turn were copied onto a lot of myspace profiles. i changed web addresses and servers, and enabled web forwarding... but because those midi files aren't available anymore, i get hundreds of hits a day for nothing. i want to put my voice inside those midis, remake my old website with the correct location for my midis and then thousands of times a month people will get me telling them to come visit my website kinda thingy... |

As my neighbor said, "if it's something those mainstream wav to midi programs won't do, somebody's looking at their functional goal wrong....maybe another wackjob like the guy at work who wanted to scan reports into the computer, use ocr to get them into a file, then print them out. We said, 'why aren't you using the photocopy machine?' He turned red and slunk out of the room."

I'm not going to slink out of any room... but I will continue to offer the reward.
I'm quite well aware it's probably impossible, but putting up the reward in the off chance that some whizz accidently stumbles upon a solution. |

Assuming you give the file a .mid extension but actually make it a .mov or something, will it still play? I've seen quicktime be fairly loose about what it allows.

No it won't. The problem is that midi's are just computer generated notes, not sounds.. which is why I'm hoping some whizzkid will find a way around it.

My point was that all these people are linking to a file with .mid. I've seen quicktime play something based on what it really is, and not the filename before. Have you tried recording your voice as a .wav or something, and just naming it file.mid and uploading it...it's possible that when these people try to load the file their computer will play it the way it's actually encoded.

Hi,
have you just tried changing the mime encoding from audio/midi mid midi kar to something like audio/x-wav wav mid midi and just providing the audio as a wav file, but called something.mid? |

Which was my suggestion, twice.

voice in midi can only be done with some special hardware, but it would not work on normal computer due to 'n' reasons.
so i think this topic is ![]() pk |

What about trying the computer generated voice?

It's structure is a list of codes for playing something contained inside a midi playback chip. I would be able to create a midi file talking with high quality, on my own computer with my own voice, but this project worth a lot more than 1000$, just for the time it takes i would ask at least 9000$ for a company if i am keeping the rights and over 80,000$ if they keep the rights. I have to mention that it would be necesssary to upload a specific application to every people wanting to be able to listen to these midi files, because there is hundreds of different midi interfaces in the world. There is two different approach for this project, achieving the same results. I wont give any clue at this point... Almost everything is possible, it is always a question of time and money... |

Providing a sample is requiring to do 90% of the job.
I wont do it without a contract and deposit. Too many hours of work involved in this project for providing a sample. |

my last cell phone would only play midi files (event sounds / ringtones), I discovered it could play wav files if I just uploaded the wav and renamed the *.wav extension to *.mid
