Can I port a business number that's in my home to a voip number?

My DSL is on my home number, if I change that to my business line my DSL rates will almost triple (I have static IPs) and will make it hard to justify dropping my home line. I really want to tell AT+T to take a (insert your favorite expletive here).

Right now I pay a federal subscriber line charge, rate surcharge, state regulatory fee and USF fee, along with 4 other Kalifornia fees and 3 or 4 city fees.

Other than the $3 USF fee, what else is tacked on?

How much bandwidth does the ATA use?
Any special ports that need to be opened on a firewall?

It uses your internet connection when on a call talking, but shouldn't affect it that much unless you have a really slow connection. A VoIP call on our network uses about 100kbps.

It doesn't use your computer at all though. We send you an adapter and you just plug it into your router/internet connection and then plug your normal telephones into the adapter and use them like you normally would.

1) We only offer residential service at this time. You can port in a business number if the usage/call volume is normal residential usage.

2) All the major providers like AT&T & Verizon offer something called "Dry Loop" or "Direct DSL" now. If you call them they should be able to switch you over to this. It's DSL but they just deactivate the phone portion of the line. Usually it's $5-$10 more per month than normal DSL but since most users save $50 or so monthly by switching to VOIPo from a landline you usually still come out ahead.

3) We charge a $3 flat recovery fee which covers all the associated taxes, USF contributions, 911 fees, etc. So the only fee you'd see is $3/Month or $36/Year if you go with the yearly plan.

4) While on a call, it uses 100kbps up and down.

5) It depends on the router, but we recommend users setup port forwarding on their router and forward ports 5060-5080 and 35000-65000 to the adapter to make sure they get 100% reliable service.

I'm familiar with dry or naked DSL, fortunately the telcos have been slow at offering this, I'm a part owner of a WISP in the midwest and we have been gaining customers as they drop their landline phones, if they ever wise up (not likely...) they might downsell people disconnecting home phone lines.

My business line has very little usage, I figured the telcos might have some tariff restrictions to prevent porting a business line to voip.

Our WISP has been looking at offering voip, before you started I looked at Magicjack, but they don't offer numbers in our LATA. VOIPO might be what we have been looking for.

No telco restrictions on that, so it will be fine.

You may be interested in our reseller program. We're in the beta now and expect to do a "soft launch" this month. It basically allows you to buy service at wholesale and sell it under your own brand. You get a reseller panel similar to the WHM panel that HostGator offers and you just login and instantly setup new accounts, order numbers, etc. Then your customers each have a branded user panel with your logo/company info to manage their accounts within the limits you set.

Gotta question about VoIP...I am currently using Vonage and their price is $34. plus some change each month. I've noticed while using the phone while on the internet, there is so much static I can not understand the call. I have been looking for something else and this might just be what I need.
Question - Can I transfer my current number I have with Vonage to VoIP? If I can, what do I need to do?

Sure we can transfer numbers from Vonage. You can start this right on the order form. We just need a signed transfer authorization form and a copy of your last Vonage bill to send to them to get it transferred. It usually takes about 2 weeks to transfer. In terms of static, you shouldn't have any as long as you have a solid internet connection.
