Positive 12 Months With Hostgator. It Sucks Big Time. [resolved]

I have completed 12 months with hostgator. I would say it was a road full of compromises for me. They never provide a solution to my problem. I am hosting wordpress blogs on my sites.

1. I have to disable the wp-cron files or it makes my site down
2. I have other friends hosting wordpress blogs(more than me) on hostgator and they say they never disable the wp-cron files and still works fine.
3. HostGator never informs that they will limit the processes upto 25. This is the problem created by my wp-cron files. Processes overflows.
4. There servers are also slower. Because they have now 1.8 million domains hosted that means their servers are definitely overloaded.

I tried that hostgator should find me a solution. but they say that its a wordpress problem. But I have hostings from other cheaper companies, they work fine with wordpress. Now I am hoping to get a solution thru this thread.

With all these problems, I m still staying with hostgator because.
1. I have learned to compromise.
2. There downtime is real low. Except for 13/05/09 theplace outage it very rarely goes down.
I shall rate hostgator 3/10. unless my problems are rectified.

Hi Yogendra,

I apologize about the inconveniences. I'm going to have one of our senior administrators look at your site and get back to you as quickly as possible. Once an administrator has a chance to look into your site, I'll come back and update this post as well.

Thanks for your patience.

We found a ticket from about a year ago where you mentioned issues similar to the ones you're describing in this post. Do you have a more recent ticket ID we could check into?

Either way, the administrator who looked into this told me that your site is using an outdated version of WordPress that had problems with wp-cron causing high CPU usage issues and not properly exiting. Upgrading to the latest version of WordPress should mostly resolve the stability issues you've been encountering, as well as greatly improve the security on your account.

Once you've upgraded, we recommend you install WP Super Cache to optimize your blog's CPU usage, as well as GD Press Tools, which should help address the issues you're seeing with your cron and RSS/plugin issues. Both of these plugins are very easy to install and easy to use.

Hopefully this information is helpful. Don't hesitate to let me know or update your ticket if you have any other questions or concerns.

This shouldn't be an issue with a recent version of Wordpress. What version are you running? If it's old, have you considered upgrading? Aside from maybe fixing this issue, newer versions also have a number of security fixes you might be interested in.

Then I wonder what this (taken directly from my cPanel) means if it doesn't inform me that I'm limited to 25 processes.. lol

1.8 million domains hosted, but on how many servers? To list the number of domains hosted without mentioning how many servers are being used to host those domains is far from proof that the servers are "definitely overloaded". I know I don't have any problems with my sites on gator824, can't claim to know about any of their other servers, but the one I'm hosted on always gives me a quick response and there's no indication that it's even close to overloaded.

Oh comeon I have always updated to see if it works. But updating to a new version doesn't solve the problem. Stop kidding me these are the old excuses imposed and I have verified them useless long ago.
Even If I update my wordpress to latest version and enable the wp-cron.php file the processes start to increase beyond 25 and sites go down. I have tried it before updating to the latest version and enabling the wp-cron file processes still increase.

I am running Version 2.7. I have always updated to current version still if I enable wp-cron,php file processes overflow.

This theme is deployed just few months back. While selling the hosting they don't disclose that they are gonna limit the No. of processes to 25.

What is you domain name?
What plugins and theme are you using?
Didn't you bother to read the TOS about resource usage limits?

Following is the latest mail i got from HG
Quote:
Dear Customer,

You will need to contact the wp-cron developer to find out what you need to do to re-enable the plugin.

Please let us know if you need any further assistance and we will try and help you the best we can.

same wp-cron.php file is being used by thousands of users on HG, and they don't get problem. But I am getting it. It surely is not a WP probem. Its a hostgator problem.

My latest reply to HG Support.
Hey Brandon,
I have checked that the problem is still intact. I tried to update my Alergy blog and restored its wp-cron.php file. I kept watching till the processes go from 2 to 12. It proves that problem is still there. So your excuse that updating to latest version will solve the problem is proven wrong.Problem lies some where else. I request you to find it out and sort out my problem.
For the time being Pls. DO NOT enable any of wp-cron.php files on any of my site without giving prior information to me. Right now its late in night here and I m going to sleep. So pls.try something else. 2 hours back you enabled wp-cron.php file on my main domain and that single file crashed all my sites. i started getting 500 error so I had to disable my self.
Once again do not enable any wp-cron file without informing me in advance.

I just asked one of our senior administrators to check out your ticket. You should be hearing from him soon. I'll also check out the ticket once he has had a chance to look into it as well.

Ok,
A tech guy had put a detailed logging on the site and he found that the problem was caused by the multiple ping sites listed in wordpress. I have limited them on 3 of my sites and enabled wp-cron.php file and after 19 hrs there is no surge in processes. I am still testing it, But it should solve the problem. Thanks.
