Default $10 late fee?

I am being asked to pay a $10 late fee for being a day late because my credit card expired.

2 questions:

Why didn't I get an earlier reminder?

How does it cost $10 if I am a day late with payment, what is this $10 for?

If you had ur CC info saved, then you should have got a warning 5 days (and every day after that) before the due date! I know I did when my CC was expired n I forgot to update my info.

Actually I just paid the invoice with paypal. Aparantly my new card was sent over a week ago. I never got it so I am being sent another one now.

There was no $10 added to the total though so I'm happy enough, but I'd still like to know what that $10 is for?

It's called a late fee... a penalty for not paying on time.

How on earth do you get paid for anything then? I wouldn't pay anything on time if I couldn't get charged a late fee or interest...

Well, interest is allowed, but a penalty or a fine is not. Its the same in most countries.

Too bad you're dealing with a company in the US, not Great Brittan then.

What's the difference? :P

If you want to see if sort of proposed law is a bad or good idea... just look at the U.S - if they do it, then don't.

How would you feel if you were expecting to be paid for services rendered and they decided not to pay for a couple months? It is an inconvenience as they have to manually reactivate the account etc just because you didn't pay you bill. I do the same, you don't pay on time, you are going to be charged for it.

I believe a penalty is unenforceable at common law also in USA. It is designed to prevent one party profiteering by fleecing the other for breach of contract. I'm not going to make a fuss over a measerly $10, it wasn't applied anyway!

Indeed we do in europe, but giving fake fee's is iligal. I coud give you a fee for beeing late at my house and w/e. basic point is if you dont pay and you have a contract or singed a agreement with the provider. They will try contact you for payment arangement if it not succeeds they will go to a bureau that will try 1ns more if not go to court to confiscate your things to get the money.

Anyway now my way of word ontopic, I joined like 2 weeks ago or w/e and I payed by paypal echeck. Hostgator said they woud enable my account even if they dident got the payment yet. Paypal said it took 7 days to pay. On the 8 day paypal stil dident pay I got a reminder I have to pay a 10dollar late fee soon.

1: How dare you sending me this crap whyle you accepted it this is not my fault but hostgator fault + paypal why punish me.
2: they paid on the 9th day paypal that is, not getting a excuse anything from hostgator. I mean I always pay my bills but if something is late and then puning me for it. I call that a real good reason to piss me off not.

Thats something that really bothered me something Iget blaimed for what I cant help. And they even accepted it so whats this BS XD?
